I think they there is a more detection measures now that prevents lag switching. The switch can only be off for a few seconds or he DCs. So, if that latch switch player ran toward you a knifed you, you'd be dead. The lag switch players recorded movement and damage output are resynced with the game server and applied to it's environment and yours. The lag switcher can then get away or move to attack you - then they flip the data flow back on and the server syncs to their data. If you're shooting at someone and they flip a lag switch they can move away from your shots without you seeing it - in fact to you it appears that you are still getting hits. That means file transfers, streaming music, watching Youtube or even just browsing the web could become excruciatingly slow for not only yourself, but anyone else you share the internet with. However, to other players you will appear stopped or hitched. When you turn on a software lag switch you slow down not just your game but everyone and everything on your network.

While your game is not sending data to the hosting server, you can continue to perform actions in your game environment.

When you flip it you can leave your data flow connection to the game server off for a few brief seconds It's physical toggle switch that you splice into a portion of your Ethernet cable.

Lag switches make you appear hitched or frozen to other players.
